First of all, “not stated” doesn’t mean “not canon”. It’s pretty clear what Jack Harkness is and i don’t think he ever outright came out. Could Victor Hugo have confirmed Enjolras’s sexuality outside of canon, like Barrowman (or Moffat ?) confirmed the captain’s omnisexuality ? No. There is no way to know the exact intended sexuality of Enjolras.
Also, this post is gonna have a bit of “homosexual history”. However, I don’t believe Enjolras is homosexual (it’s fine if you do, but i don’t think it’s quite as simple as that). He is on the queer spectrum, but he certainly doesn’t like women in that way. But let’s not forget that in the middle of the 19th century it was that simple for people. You were straight, and if you were attracted to persons of the same sex, well… suck it up, you’re still straight.
So here I’m gonna try to prove that Victor Hugo did the best he could in stating Enjolras’s sexuality.
